I read in Wheels magazine that a 1.6 litre turbo will be used when we get the Cruze here next year and also have read that
Walkinshaw Performance will be targeting the Cruze as part of their product range.

Does that mean HSV will be doing a version of the Cruze here ?

Personally I will be waiting to see what happens with Opel`s planned push down under.

I do really like the GTC and can`t wait to see the hardcore version !

Yep, probably based off the corsa vxr Wink

But i think they are trying to promote off the chevy cruze that plato won the btcc in, but completely different motor as they were running a c20xe by the looks of it!

Phil did say when I asked about the cruze earlier last month that HSV are going to look at it seeing as it will be locally made, but, will only do something with it if the package meets HSV strict performance criteria......

Isn't the cruze in the top 5 best selling cars in Aus at the moment?

The big difficulty HSV has in marketing a Cruze will be getting sufficient power from the drivetrain.
They need to reach at least 200KW at the very least to be competitive. The problem is that the current Cruze engines, including the new turbo version to be introduced with the Aussie hatch, are incapable of coming within a bull's roar, of that figure......So, what engine, G/B, brakes etc would thay use?....You tell me....and then tell me how they would make it cost effective?
Cheers, Pickles.

There are a few good optioned turbo motors in the GM stable, maybe the next astra vxr motor which would have that spec.

For sure, there probably are a few ENGINES, but if only it were that simple......you've also got to look at chassis strengthening, transmission, brakes, etc etc....it's a massive process.....I don't see how HSV can make it cost effective for such a small market......and of course the whole issue is more complicated now, because the GM/Opel connection is not there any more.

GM/Opel connection is not there any more.!! if this is the case, logic side of things would be or even the reality of this would be OPEL dealership will dif come to our shores??
if opel do come to our shores , this will mean taking our VXR to a place like regal sport etc...in nsw,vic etc....

put it this way,it would really be upsetting if we dont get the upgrade of the VXR here down under!!
can someone help me understand if GM/OPEL connection is not there anymore, then whats up with the holden cruze, thats opel isnt it ?? or am i miss understanding something.

thanks

GM still has it's Opel connection so no issues there. The next vxr motor is likely to be a yank motor anyway. Pretty much all the stuff can be got for the cruze ut the chasis strengthening will be the biggest hurdle.

No....Cruze is nothing to do with Opel.
Certainly, there is talk that Opel will come to Aus. Indeed, I heard on a forum (was it this one?) that Opel had been registered as a business name in Aus or N.Z. The difference is that this time Opel, if it comes to Aus, will be sold as a separate brand.....it may not even be sold through Holden dealers. But, I'd LOVE to see the Opel range in Aus....they've got some top cars.....and that new GTC Coupe....awesome....in looks & power.
And that is just my point with Cruze......to make the Cruze competitive, it would have to be at least as good as that, & similar offerings such as Golf R etc.....I can't see how HSV can do it.
Cheers, Pickles.
Anyway, the poi

That will be the other issue. If Opel do come here as we are predicting, the Cruze is going to have a really hard time competing, especially in a hot hatch market where the other brands have established a name for performance. We all saw it with the VXR's sales. No matter how good the car is, it's the publics perception that will dictate the sales, along with good marketing and unbiased reviews.

Slightly off topic, hurry up and get your new car Martin, I want to see it in the flesh Cheesy

Ha ha ha....So do I Rory!
Problem is with the compliance &  build plates with 30 of the cars, one of which is ours. Firstly there were no compliance plates, then there were no build plates....Ford then sent more compliance plates instead of build plates.......still waiting for the build plate.....we could take delivery, but I've refused to do so until all appropriate plates are attached.
Cheers, Martin.
